oh my goodness. well, it is tuesday night, and i'm done with homework for the evening and life is good. at least for my immediate aura-sphere. i've decided that summer is actually over and have embraced the piles of homework that lay before me. all of it bringing me closer to my goals- knowing how to work with nonprofit business, theatre and film. and people are at the center of it all. communication- that is really a skill that should be taught and retaught throughout the collegiate experience. the more people learn how to communicate and respect the thoughts and ideas of others- while still maintaining passion for your own position- the better projects, plans and relationships flow. i think being a good mediator, a true mediator, is an incredible gift.
i watched "Ground Truth"- started it Sunday and finished it earlier this evening. there is a peace march in Washington, DC this weekend, which I'm sure I won't be able to attend- even though i tossed in my $100. i've got projects in both nonfiction video and lighting I that require my attention over the weekend. there is no way i could get caught up on the lighting project while riding the bus to Washington as it requires sitting at a drafting table with all the necessary drafting tools. so i feel guilty- but i tell myself that i am in school learning skills that will allow me to be a highly effective activist for change in my field. so even if i can't go march, i am walking the path to make activism my full time gig via performance, video and working with or as a nonprofit. but this war is maddening- what it is doing to people of Iraq is unfathomable. if a group of armed men jumped into this coffee shop and started shouting, shooting at people and rounding up all the men and taking them away...Americans have so little idea as to the horror we are inflicting on these people- not to mention how the men and women in the military are also suffering- from denied health benefits to post-traumatic stress disorder. it is mind-blowing.
