I watched Alice at the Palace last night. It is the broadway production of Alice in Wonderland with Meryl Streep as Alice from 1982. It was just magical all the way through. There is an amazing song at the end that really hit my heart. I encourage everyone to watch the whole production, but if nothing else, step into a moment of the magic by watching this clip.
Said the Unicorn to Alice: "Well, now that we seen each other, if you believe in me, I'll believe in you. Is that a bargain?"
I've been thinking a lot about Meryl Streep this morning. I
watched "Prairie Home Companion" yesterday, then I watched a bunch of clips
on Meryl Streep on youtube last night. it makes me appreciate her so much more when I hear
her talk, and reveal her heart on things. when that guy who runs the Actor Studio asked her a bunch of questions- the one’s he asks every guest, he asked
her, “what sound do you hate?” and I thought, oh god, those motorcycles that
wake me up because they have no muffler, those drunk kids yelling outside my
window on Saturday nights- and she recounted going past a certain street
corner in New York, and it was raining, and there was this woman in the rain
just saying “Please…please.” Meryl’s answer was “pain”- the sound of pain. and
I thought, my God, there you go. that is what an angel would say. and that is
what I want to be like- more compassionate, more empathetic, more available.
less about my suffering, and more about loving this world in all it’s pain,
fear and conflict.
